A monkey and a peacock

Something pretty to update the blog with.
It's been awhile I know. Sorry.
Life has been a bit stink... broke up with my man... hibernating and painting (well painting a bit)... mostly hibernating.
But life is looking up... I'm feeling inspired to paint now! I have some themes and ideas towards my exhibition! Yay!

A folk festival and a giant tree

Check out this tree stump! Heck!
I spent the day at the Wellington Folk Festival (held in Wainuiomata)... it was a lot of fun!
There were heaps of old-folk-hippies, up-and-coming-folk-hippies, dance workshops and lots of banjos and fiddles.
Richard (of RBB) played his Bass and was awesome! (Refer to his blog here for more updates about the fest. as I much prefer to post pictures rather than type sentences). :)

The mask

It has been a busy but good week! I was accepted into the Make-up Artistry coarse (Yus!), The Theatre design job is all go (Yus again!) and I turned 26.
I celebrated with my parents, my brother George and my boyfriend Quinn last Friday night. It was awesome fun! George, Quinn and I stayed up late and took lots of silly photos...

Back to school

I have recently decided the time is right to do more study, and today I received an enrollment pack in the mail, for a course in make-up artistry.
I have been interested in doing this course for years... even back when I was still at university studying Textile Design, I had a yearning to learn the art of make-up.
It will be a strange experience returning to study after four years of working (and a fair bit of laziness). I was laughing with Quinn earlier today about the fact I will be one of those 'Adult Students', in a class quite likely made up of many fresh faced 17 and 18 year olds. Ok so 26 (eek) isn't old, but I have grown and learned a lot since I was 18.
I am very excited though... hopefully enrollment all goes according to plan!

I am also waiting to hear in October whether I have job designing for another play at Bats Theatre! (fingers crossed!) and am also about to apply to Thistle Hall Gallery for an opportunity to have an exhibition of my paintings some time in the near future (fingers crossed again!)

So it looks like a busy time ahead for me. Can't wait!

Waiting on the Postman

I am waiting (quite excitedly) on a parcel from my dear friend Sylvia.
Sylvia is an amazing friend I made at university, who is now living in Auckland (I miss her heaps), and working in the magazine industry. She is so very generous, and has informed me she has sent me a package containing a fashion magazine, and various exciting make-up treats!
Usually the only things I receive in the post are bank statements etc. so this parcel is especially exciting!
I think I am going to make an effort to send some hand written letters/postcards/bits and bobs to my friends, rather than just emails and facebook messages. Much more personal and exciting!
Thanks Sylvie!

I can't keep secrets

My very talented cousin Eva Prowse has just released the first single from her upcoming debut album 'I Can't Keep Secrets'. The single, 'Youngest Child' is available here for free! Go Eva!
I believe the full album has a release date of October 10th.
Eva kindly entrusted me to draw same crazy silly illustrations for the album cover art, so I am super excited to see the end result!

An unfinished face

My newest painted face. A work in progress, but I thought I would take some photos in case I overworked it.

Bits and bobs of inspiration on a dreary Monday

Some postcards my mum found when sorting through boxes of old treasures. The middle one scanned strangely as it is actually holographic.

A card for my 5th birthday, given to me by my Nana.

Foolish photos found on Facebook

A toast to toast

I had a nice weekend in town with Quinn. On Friday night we went with some friends to see Olmecha Supreme play at The Garden Club. The band was great and it was a good opportunity for us to pull out all of our best dance moves.

On Saturday we ate lots of toast (mmm toast) and played Super Smash Bros Brawl on Quinn's Nintendo.

The prettiest van in all the land

Photos from a friend's mother's farm in Hawkes Bay.

Sketchbook

I spent a large portion of this morning cutting some of my favourite drawing paper into A5 sheets, to become a little sketchbook. I will get the pages spiral-bound tomorrow hopefully.

Below is an unfinished drawing I have started working on.

Pool times

I am just back from the Monday night aqua aerobics class that I attend with Mum. Sadly aqua aerobics does not leave me looking nearly as glamorous as the three beauties in the picture above.
I look (or at least feel) more like a floundering sea turtle with panda eye-makeup.
It is fun though, and a nice opportunity to spend some time with mum (and hopefully burn off a few more kilos in the process!).
